getting peppy

there was a time when i was addicted to the Food Network. it was bad. i would watch just about anything that came on, (except the southern lady. cannot stand her. and mario is a love with himself for me) but everything else i would watch (this is one of the major factors in our decision to nix cable tv. mommy couldn't. step. away.....)

we came up with nicknames for just about every one of the "celebrity chefs." rachel ray became "peppy rachael ray" and then, just "peppy."

last christmas hubby got me this book. and just last week i finally broke it out. now, my issue with rachel ray is her short-cuts. most people love this about her. i just don't like adding the processed foods (like jell-o) into what i am making. and it's a little too "cutesy" for me, but that's just me. that being said, i have found some really great recipes in here.

the first one we tried was "pasta and trees." the trees of course are broccoli, but given that we didn't have any, i used green beans. it was just as good, i think! and my kids won't eat the broccoli, so there you go.

if i posted the recipe, would the peppy police come after me???

i intend to keep delving into this book to see what other treasures i can find. but tell me, do you have a favorite kid cookbook?

I like Rachael but I find that most of her recipes, even though they say they are family/kid friendly, are not. My kids just won't eat salmon or some of the other things she has, and I agree about the shortcuts. Either the stuff is $$$ or too processed for me.

My son even has her kids cookbook and he made about three things out of it and lost interest.

I used to LOVE Rachael Ray but after watching her almost every night, she started getting pretty annoying. I mean, does she have to GIGGLE after every sentence?
I still can't stop watching Food Network though, so much that my boyfriend even knows the chefs! My fav is gotta be Giada, followed by Robin Miller. I cannot STAND Sandra Lee! Talk about processed foods! :)
